Pagosa Springs, have you ever heard of it? I hadn’t until my family planned a weekend getaway there. If you’ve never heard of it, I’m telling you now – this charming town in Colorado is a must visit for hidden gems in the United States. Pagosa Springs is refreshingly authentic and the perfect destination for a relaxing or adventurous escape. With sprawling green hills, towering tree covered mountains, and crystal clear water, this small town is awe-inspiring.
We stayed in a local cabin and loved being right in the heart of the town. With our cabin right on the lake, we had beautiful views and morning visits from deer each day. Pagosa Springs surprisingly has a lot of great activities. You can rent kayaks or paddleboards and go out on the beautiful lakes. There are also many biking and walking trails around the town with breathtaking scenery. We walked around a couple different lakes and loved the combination of the views, the perfect summer weather and the peaceful atmosphere. If you have more of an adventurous spirit, then Pagosa Springs is perfect for you. Within close proximity to the city are many, many hikes and natural hot springs. You can choose to pay and go to a resort hot springs, or hike five miles to a natural hot springs. For those wanting to relax, or those wanting to adventure, Pagosa Springs has it all. We hiked a quick, family friendly hike to Piedra Falls and loved it. There are places along the hike where the water from the falls pools up and you can go in for a quick dip if you want to be refreshed (warning: it’s very, very refreshing, the water comes straight from the mountains so be prepared for cold dip!)
The town of Pagosa Springs has a cute downtown and main street area that are fun to walk along, with many great boutique shops and restaurants. What we loved most about this town was the feeling of total peace and removal from the typical hustle and bustle of normal life. My brothers were able to fish every morning. The weather was near perfect. If you’re craving a bigger city adventure then you can just drive a quick hour to Durango and get a wider array of things to do. We planned a white water river rafting trip in Durango, and loved the adventure we had. With level 3 and 4 rapids, we were feeling wild.
Pagosa Springs is one of the best places for a relaxing weekend getaway. Don’t miss out on one of America’s hidden gems and plan your trip today!
